The Diary of a Budgeter – Day 52
The power of perseverance
It’s amazing what can happen when you simply decide not to give up! Scott and I were working on the podcast today. He’s my behind-the-scenes tech hero! We’ve been having trouble with some video quirks and I was at my wits end, but as usual, he refused to give up! Eventually, he solved the problem and we rejoiced together.
I must say, I was ready to throw in the towel. I’m so thankful he didn’t!
It got me thinking about all the stories I’ve heard and read about people who tried to budget and failed. But when you hear more of the story, it usually turns out they just gave up too soon.
Budgeting isn’t something most people find interesting – I’m lucky enough to enjoy it, which is probably why I never gave up! It takes time to get it right – I don’t know of anyone who did it right the first time. And what is “right” anyway? What works for others may not work for me.
Perseverance is the only way to “get it right.” The best lessons usually come from failure, because when you come across something that doesn’t work, you have to search for something that does. It’s a stretch we don’t always embrace. But when we do, watch out world!
What’s worked best for me is patience, embracing trial and error, asking lots of questions and trying things that worked for others – things I never would have thought of! Sometimes they work for me, sometimes they don’t – and sometimes tweaking their ideas to work for my situation works wonders!
Life with a budget is amazing! Not only am I debt-free and moving toward financial freedom because of it, but I’m much more confident in my abilities – financial and otherwise.
If we reach deep and keep trying, we will persevere!
