The Diary of a Budgeter – Day 46

The “Feuding Neighbors” category

I’m a YNAB addict; I admit it. One thing a lot of YNAB addicts are known for is having unique categories in their budget. Today, thanks to Scott’s creative mind, I’m joining the ranks! Presenting the “Feuding Neighbors” category.

A few years ago, we had a woman with two very rowdy teenagers living above us. We’re not sure what went on up there, but it felt like several earthquakes and a million aftershocks every day! I don’t know how they did it, but they made the floor under us shake from above! We tried asking them to curtail the noise – it only seemed to get louder. We tried asking the apartment manager to intervene – we were rewarded with scowls when passing them in the complex and various items being thrown at our car on multiple occasions. We got angry, they got more angry – it wasn’t good. Finally, they moved out and all was right with the world again!

A couple weeks ago, a new couple with two small children moved in above us. The 4-year-old has been practicing for track & field non-stop and it’s getting to be a bit much. Not wanting a repeat of what happened last time, Scott came up with the idea to “kill them with kindness!” We’ll start by ordering some pizzas for them as a “welcome to the neighborhood.” If we can start on friendly terms, maybe they’ll be more willing to work with us, so we can all live in peace.

Scott suggested the “feuding neighbors” category, so we can always have a few bucks set aside to aid in our plot to “kill them with kindness.” I LOVE the idea and can’t wait to get started!
